Renowned critic and scholar
Apurba Kumar Saikia, Sahitya Akademi Awardee (2020) for the short story collection Bengsata, is an MS in Ophthalmolo- gy and presently serves as a senior administrative officer under the Govt. Of India. A prolific Assamese writer, Dr. Saikia has authored eleven short story collections, one anthology of essays and edited one anthology of translated world short stories. Over the years, he has been the recipient of numerous honors, including the Literary Excellence Award by the Indian Medical Association (2012), the Katha-sandhi Samman by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi (2018), the Ambikagiri Roychoudhury Award by Asam Sahitya Sabha for Chatar Urohi (2019). Presently, he is a General Council Member of Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.
Anindita Kar is a translator and occasional poet. She speaks three languages in her day-to-day existence, writes in one and translates from two—Assamese and Bengali. Her work appears in several journals and online magazines including Sahitya Akademi’s Indian Literature, Muse India, The Antonym, Poetry at Sangam, Bombay Literary Magazine, among others. She has also contributed translations to several anthologies published by Moving Words, The Antonym Collections, Routledge London, Jadavpur University Press and Niyogi Books.
Arhana Purba Saikia is a Dental Surgeon presently pursuing Postgraduate Fellowship in Regional Dental College, Guwahati. She has been writing regularly for newspapers and magazines like The Assam Tribune, Prakash, Satsoree etc. She was adjudged the best story writer both in English and Assamese during her time in Cotton College, Guwahati. Her debut short story collection Prashna Bilash is in the final stage of publication.
Bibekananda Choudhury is an electrical engineer by profession and a retired officer of the State Government of Assam. He holds a Masters degree from BITS-Pilani and a Diploma in French language from Gauhati University. His original and translated works in Assamese, Bengali and English have appeared in popular periodicals and newspapers. His translations of poems and stories have been published on several occasions in ‘Indian Literature’, the bi-monthly journal of the Sahitya Akademy. His translated poems of Nilim Kumar were featured in ‘Poems from the Seashore’, representing Assam in the Indian Ocean Rim Association Poets’ Conclave hosted by the Ministry of External Affairs, GoI and Sahitya Akademi. They also appeared in the compilation 100 Indian Great Poems by Bloomsbury and in the Penguin Book of Poems on Indian Cities. One of his translated poems is included in the undergraduate syllabus of Bangalore University and the postgraduate syllabus of Cotton University. His recent work includes the translation of Harekrishna Deka’s Assamese novel The Strangers, published by Dhauli Books, Bhubaneswar. He has over a dozen translated books to his credit. He hails from Bongaigaon and presently stays at Guwahati.
Bondita Baruah, a PhD in English literature, is engaged in creative and journalistic writings (for The New York Times, The Third Pole, The Wire and others) and has translated chapters for books like The Game Called NRC and Baghjan. She has been involved with translation projects for The New York Times, Stories Asia, Kraken Films and others. Currently Dr. Bondita Baruah is engaged as a faculty (Assistant professor) at Girijananda Chowdhury University in the department of English.
Pradip Acharya, an alumnus of Delhi University is a former head of the department of English, Cotton College in Guwahati. He is an eminent academician and a prolific translator in Assamese and English. He has some well-known translations to his credit, like Ancient Gongs and When Seas Meet (translated from Assamese) and Krishnanga Kabir Kabita (translated into Assamese). Rupanjali Baruah is a published author, poet, abstract artist, art critic, translator. She is also editor and publisher at WordSmith Publishers, based in Guwahati. Her debut English novella A Wayside Story was an instant hit. Her second English novel, The Road Alone has been published by Authorspress, New Delhi
Reetuparna Dey is an Assam based watercolour Illustrator and comics artist, currently pursuing her PhD in English from Dibrugarh University. Her interests lie in anime, graphic novels, films, pop culture, queer studies and life at large. Music is her second love. She dreams of spending her life detached from society’s sensory overload, far away in a cottage, surrounded by sturdy houseplants and furry roommates. She has had her graphic narratives published in anthologies namely, (italics) Of Dry Tongues, and Brave Hearts ,That’s how Mirai Eats a Pomegranate(Dr. Namrata Pathak), Riverside Stories, etc. She has illustrated the front cover of Late Dr. Aparna Mahanta’s book, Times Winged Chariot. Her paintings have been featured in the webzine, Cafe Dissensus alongside the works of Easterine Kire, Dibyajyoti Sarma, Bipasha Bora, et al. She paints for clients pan India and abroad.
