Welcome to the wonderful Madhuban Forest, a place teeming with life and beauty! Unfortunately, this magical spot is facing challenges due to harmful activities. The sounds of tree cutting disturb the once-peaceful groves, and individuals like Paban Das are taking advantage of the forest’s treasures. But don’t worry! The animals and plants of the forest are coming together to share their story. They step out from their homes to confront Paban about what’s happening and to show him how important it is to care for their beautiful habitat. Written by Bhagirath Mishra and translated from the Bengali by Sohini Basak, this delightful novella for children not only tells an engaging story but also teaches important lessons about caring for our environment, loving nature, and the importance of sustainability. Join us on this adventure and discover how we can all help protect our planet!

About the Author

Bhagirath Mishra’s life is a blend of adventure, art, and scholarship. Born in a remote village in Paschim Medinipur, he grew up amid palm groves, folk festivals, and tales of witches. The only son after six daughters, he showed early flair for the unconventional— once running away with a magician at nine. He later performed as an actor and soothsayer with opera troupes across eastern India, even while completing his Higher Secondary exam (1964) and a master’s degree in geography from Calcutta University (1970). After clearing the WBCS in 1974, he held key government roles until his retirement in 2006. His writing career flourished thereafter, with works such as Amalagachi and numerous award-winning novels and stories, many of which were adapted for radio, stage, film, and translation.
