Bibekananda Choudhury

Bibekananda Choudhury is an electrical engineer by profession and a retired officer of the State Government of Assam. He holds a Masters degree from BITS-Pilani and a Diploma in French language from Gauhati University. His original and translated works in Assamese, Bengali and English have appeared in popular periodicals and newspapers. His translations of poems and stories have been published on several occasions in ‘Indian Literature’, the bi-monthly journal of the Sahitya Akademy. His translated poems of Nilim Kumar were featured in ‘Poems from the Seashore’, representing Assam in the Indian Ocean Rim Association Poets’ Conclave hosted by the Ministry of External Affairs, GoI and Sahitya Akademi. They also appeared in the compilation 100 Indian Great Poems by Bloomsbury and in the Penguin Book of Poems on Indian Cities. One of his translated poems is included in the undergraduate syllabus of Bangalore University and the postgraduate syllabus of Cotton University. His recent work includes the translation of Harekrishna Deka’s Assamese novel The Strangers, published by Dhauli Books, Bhubaneswar. He has over a dozen translated books to his credit. He hails from Bongaigaon and presently stays at Guwahati.
