About the Author

A government employee by profession, Tanwi Halder earned recognition with her debut novel, Alabhumi, which received the prestigious Sutapa Roychowdhury Memorial Award. Her short story collection, Majurratna, won the Somen Chanda Memorial Award from the Bangla Academy of the Government of West Bengal. She has also been honored with a series of accolades, including the Samar Mukherjee Memorial Award, Dolly Midya Memorial Award, Arbika Medal, Ila Chandra Memorial Award, Sharmila Ghosh Literary Award, and Shaibabharati Literary Award. With a literary repertoire that spans nine collections of short stories, three volumes of poetry, and nine novels, her work resonates widely in contemporary Bengali literature.

About The Translator

Shamita Das Dasgupta is a psychologist and the cofounder of Manavi, the first organization in the United States to focus on gender violence in the South Asian-American community. She has taught at Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey, and New York University Law School. She has four books in English on South Asian women’s issues. She translates from Bengali to English and vice versa. Shamita has authored two books of poetry and three mystery stories. She continues writing for various Bengali magazines in the US and India.
