About the Author
Dr. Madan Gopal Mukhopadhyay was born to his parents Mr. Bimal Kumar Mukhopadhyay and Mrs. Swarnalata Devi in Calcutta (now Kolkata), India in 1943. After his undergraduate studies in medicine, he went to the United States of America in 1967, where he received post-graduate training in medicine and medical oncology. Following his training in cancer treatment, he practiced his specialty for over forty years before retiring.
His short stories, travelogues, and poetry have been published in various Bengali magazines for over fifty years. He has published several plays, many of which have been staged in Los Angeles and Calcutta. He has published several books including one titled Old Picture Post Cards from the British Raj. For his contributions to Bengali culture, he was honored by the North American Cultural Association of Bengal in 2003. He was awarded the Abhoy Memorial Gold Medal and the Pankaj Gupta Gold medal for his writings and dramatic performance in Bengali.
Presently retired, he resides in the Los Angeles area and besides spending his time with his family, he devotes his time to writing, traveling, and collecting antiquarian books and coins.
